God’s purpose in a trial is maturity

DIGGING DEEP NO. 951 – September 6th, 2022
Why is David called a man after God’s Own Heart

Ps 19:7-10.

Abraham at his very old age when everything realistic tells him he does not have a chance of having another child let alone a son that makes absolutely no sense that he should offer Isaac as a sacrifice but was very
willing to offer his promised son Isaac as a sacrifice in obedience to God. Moses led the Children of Israel out of Egypt, pathed the red sea, and even saw God’s back. Shadrack, Meshach & Abednigo preferred to be burnt in a fiery furnace instead of worshiping the golden image. Daniel chose to be
thrown into the hungry lion’s den in lieu of not giving thanks to God three times a day, the list goes on….  What fascinates me is that these men were ready to give up their lives and livelihood in obedience and worship unto God but none of them was called a man after God’s own Heart. But this man David slept with someone’s wife, impregnated her, and orchestrated her husband’s murder in a way that had never been done before, but why did God call him a man after His Own Heart? There could be many reasons but I believe that the reasons below will give us an insight.

  1. David was an Expert in giving God Worship. David knew the subtle difference between Praise and Worship. He understood that he can commend men for their works, but Worship is Only for God. David had resolved to himself that he will Worship God at ALL times, (Ps 34:1) Praise Chapel have we made that resolution? His Worship was never going to be seasonal, even in anguish.(Ps 13:1-2, 5-6) he enjoyed Worshiping God (Ps 54:6b) There was no ambiguity in his mind that there has never and will never be anyone or anything compared to his God. (Ps 8:1, 3-4) David’s Worship was anything but conservative. (1Chr 16:8-10) (1Chr 29:10-13) (Ps 29:1-2) (Ps 63:1-4) He also had a very clear understanding of (Deut. 8:18) that it is God that gives the power to make wealth, so he did not hold back in sacrificial Worship unto the Lord (Ps 54:6a) (2Sam 6:13&17, 2Sam 24:24). David was never a grown-up before the Lord of Host neither was he a king, therefore removing his cloth and dancing before the
Lord of Host was just the least he could do.
  2. David knew to rely solely on God even when it looked like his life was in danger. (1Sam 24:12) he fully understood that he is nothing without God (Ps. 62:1-2,5-7) (Ps. 121:1-2) (Jn. 15:5)
  3. David knew how to ask for mercy and to confess and acknowledge his sins (2Sam 12:7, 13; Ps 51:1-4) (Ps 25:11). He knew God is always ready to forgive with abundant mercies for all who call upon the Lord.(Ps 86:5-6)

In Conclusion: David did not only know that without the presence of God he is like a fish out of water, but he acted like it. (Ps 51:10-12)
