DIGGING DEEP NO. 902 – September 28th, 2021
CHARACTER STUDY – Samaritan Man

The Man that Matters – Luke 10:30-37

If there is one thing that is clear in our Christian journey, we cannot go at it alone, there is a need for partnership, a need for collaboration, there is always going to be a need for a lifting up. There are various people referenced in the bible who played major roles in ensuring certain milestones were attained, barriers broken, people who ensured other people’s well-being was been looked after.

Irrespective of how minute/small/inconsequential they think their personalities were, God still partnered with them in ensuring his people/beloved ends up on the happy side. One thing to point out here is mattering actually isn’t always
positive, someone can actually matter for all the wrong reasons.

In our conversation below, we will consider different kinds of people across different spectrums of life, what they did, and how that is relevant and of importance to how we lead our lives.

DISCUSSION

  1. Moses: Born a slave, raised a prince, became a fugitive, transformed into a leader.
Question: With uncle’s baggage, did he really matter?
  2. Pharaoh: Two Pharaohs, different characters, different history makers, different stories. Joseph’s Pharaoh Gen 41:41 vs Moses’s pharaoh Exo 5:2.
Question: Which of the Pharoah’s are we emulating? Is there a “new” king or pharaoh in your community? Was Moses’s Pharaoh set up to actually fail? Exo 4:21
  3. Rahab: In a city of ungodly people, a place where God specifically called the inhabitants wicked Gen 15:16, there was a harlot with a difference, with a different mentality.
Question: Does it matter what you are for you to be a good person? Is being different really a bad thing?
  4. Samaritan Man: Considered the outsider, known as the second-class citizen, even Jews prey on them saying they know not what they MOGs passed by but only the Samaritan did the needful Luke 10:34-35.
Question: Should we even consider doing good to those who don’t really like us?

CONCLUSION
We all have choices to make, to support God in his project by helping someone out or go the other direction and support the devil in his assignment. Either way, there is no sitting on the fence. I urge us to make a conscious effort to be “The Man” in someone’s life today, let’s go out there and make a difference, support God’s project.
