MEMORY VERSE: “By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.” Hebrews 11: 4
LESSON TEXT – Genesis 4: 1-5
INTRODUCTION
The memory verse tells us that Abel who died so many years ago ‘still speaks.’ How? The life of Abel is described in Genesis 4:1-8 and amazingly he never uttered one word in any of the verses. So, how did he speak and how is he still speaking today? The Lord will open up His good treasure to us today in Jesus name. Amen.
OUTLINES
A. THE MAN ABEL
B. HOW ABEL SPOKE
THE MAN ABEL
Abel is a classic example of a godly young man.
He prospered based on hard work. Once he grew up and became an adult, he immediately became gainfully employed – 2 Thess. 3: 10. God will always bless the labor of our hands – Ps. 1: 3; Gen. 39: 2-3, 23; 2 Chr. 15: 7; 1 Thess. 4: 10b-12; Ps. 90: 17; Prov. 14: 23; Eccl. 3: 13.
He matured in his walk with God according to Genesis 4: 3a, ‘in the process of time…’ 1 Cor. 13:1 1; 1 Pet. 2: 1-3; Heb. 5: 14; Titus 1: 16; Heb. 13: 21; James 4: 17.
He brought an offering to God from his substance. His was a life of complete obedience. Gen. 4: 4a. Deut. 26: 1-2; Prov. 3: 9.
HOW ABEL SPOKE
The Bible records that Abel, though dead, still speaks, Gen. 4: 10b. Is this true? How can a dead man still speak? What do we understand this to mean? Gen. 4: 4b. Num. 18: 17; 1 John 3: 12; Mal. 1: 6-8; Gen. 4: 6-7. Abel always brought a quality offering before the Lord. Abel’s actions still speak today, thousands of years after he died. At every opportunity when it is time to give an offering to God, Abel’s actions remain a reference point, 2 Corinthians 3: 1-3.
CONCLUSION
Abel’s life and actions will forever remain a template until Jesus Christ returns to take the saints home. He was a living sacrifice. Ponder on your life today, your obedience, your giving, your lifestyle, etc. Your life will speak for you on the last day.
