CHARACTER STUDY – The Ten Virgins
Introduction
For the past three weeks, we have followed the journey of the ten virgins.
We learned that everyone received the invitation, but not everyone was ready.
We discovered that spiritual preparation cannot be borrowed and that genuine faith must remain steadfast even when the Bridegroom seems delayed.
Now the story reaches its climax.
"And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came... and the door was shut."
Matthew 25:10
The shutting of the door was not the tragedy.
The tragedy was that the foolish virgins spent too much time assuming they were ready.
This final lesson is not meant to frighten us, but to invite honest self-examination.
1. What False Assumptions Did the Foolish Virgins Make?

They assumed:
- There would always be more time.
- Preparation could happen later.
- The opportunity would remain open indefinitely.
- Which assumption was their greatest mistake?

2. Respond While the Invitation Is Still Open

- Are there areas where God is calling for immediate obedience?
- What blessings can be missed through delay?
3. What Does It Mean To Be Known By God?
- Matthew 25:11–12

- Is knowing about God enough?
- What distinguishes relationship from religion?
- Preparation delayed can become preparation denied.
- Opportunities do not remain open forever.
- Spiritual urgency is healthy.
- God desires genuine relationship.
Conclusion
The tragedy of the foolish virgins was not ignorance.
It was assumption.
They assumed tomorrow would provide what should have been done today.
The wise virgins teach us that readiness is not a moment.
It is a lifestyle.
Lord, help us to live with wisdom and urgency. Teach us to obey when You speak, prepare while there is time, and remain faithful until the end. In Jesus' name, Amen.
