ROMANS 8:37

DIGGING DEEP NO. 962 – November 22nd, 2022
MORE THAN A CONQUEROR

ROMANS 8:37

“In all things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37 Not only are we conquerors with victory over sin and Satan but Conquerors over the world – over afflictions, persecutions, and trials. We are “more” because by the blood of Jesus Christ we already have victory. Thus, we are conquerors, not in our own strength, but in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. We are conquerors by virtue of our interest in Christ’s victory. He hath overcome the world for us Jn. 16:33, both the good things and the evil things of the world and all that we have to do is divide the spoils of our conquest which are, prosperity, good health, his protections, his love, his mercies that endure forever, his grace, and his intercession on our behalf. As conquerors, we need to pursue the victory he has attained for us. We have nothing to do but to pursue victory, and to divide the spoils, John 10:10.  Whatever we focus on, determines what we empower. If our focus is on negative things, we empower negativity in our lives and cannot be conquerors. If we focus on selfish and carnal things, we empower our fallen nature. If we murmur, complain, and focus on how unfair everything seems to be in our lives, we’re actually empowering more frustration, anger, bitterness, and disappointments. A conqueror does not focus on negativities, rather his focus is on victory and the various means to overcome any and all obstacles to achieve that victory. — See Joseph, David, Daniel, Jabez, and Hannah

If we choose to focus on the positive of Kingdom truth, however, then we empower the love, light, and life of Jesus to fill us and flow through us making us conquerors over that which the enemy has planned for us.  The apostle Paul in Philippians 4:8 said Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report…think on these thingsPaul wrote this from prison. He was locked up in awful conditions, not sure if he would live or die. Yet he wrote again and again about things like joy, rejoicing, eager expectation, the privilege of walking with Christ, hope, confidence, and peace, these are all attributes of a conqueror. Near the end of his letter, he shared how all these attributes are possible—by choosing what we focus on. By deciding what we think about, by filling our minds with thoughts that are “true…honest…pure…lovely…good.” Because of his positive attitude, he was more than a conqueror in jail through his trials and tribulations. Col 3:1–22 Cor. 5:17. We are not to dwell on the things of this fallen world anymore. We are not to allow our minds to be mired in fear, doubt, frustration, anger, lack, depression, self-pity, anxiety, worry, or anything else that does not line up with the truth that Jesus has fully restored us to our relationship with our heavenly Father and His Kingdom 2 Corinthians 5:18 The more we allow our minds and our thoughts to be filled with these truths, the more we will see them made manifest in our lives and the more we become conquerors of our challenges and afflictions. We need to set our sights and thoughts in heaven to be conquerors. Col. 3:1-2; 2 Cor 5:17. Conquerorsthink like victors and not Victims. (The eagle living amongst chickens). When faced with challenges, we should stop allowing our minds to be preoccupied with a victim mentality, and we should think victoriously. We should call on the power of He that is in us, we should realize that the battle is not ours but the Lord’s and that He has already defeated the enemy. 1 Peter 5:8We need to make up our minds not to have a victim mentality. Make up Your Mind to be a conqueror in the midst of trials Daniel is a great example. He was besieged, captured, trafficked, persecuted, attacked, thrown to the lions, and mocked; he made up his mind not to defile himself. Daniel 1:8 He made up his mind to have faith in God no matter what. Romans 12:2 We can be conquerors by also putting on the whole armor of God. Eph 6:11-18. We should watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matt. 26:41, Lk 18:1 Matt. 26:41.  We should walk in the light.  1 John 1:7. We should abide under the shadow of the almighty Ps. 91:1-3. We should resist the devil James 4:7, we should exercise our faith 1 Jn 5:1-5

I want to encourage all of us that as we are in the midst of going through our various trials and tribulations, we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus who loves us. Paul’s use of the phrase “more than conquerors” refers to those who “gain a surpassing victory” meaning “to be completely victorious; to carry away an overwhelming victory.” He’s saying we “are” more than conquerors in the present tense, active situation, in other words, Christians keep on winning a glorious victory, even when all of life is against us, we are still “more than conquerors” and God will strengthen us to live out that glorious victory every day, in spite of how things look to us, or how we feel about our circumstances. We should not be moved by our circumstances, nor by what we see, but should take comfort in the fact that in the valley, we are more than conquerors, on the mountain top we are more than conquerors.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:35-37

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10-12

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; because we are more than conquerors 2 Corinthians 4:8

“And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. … Deuteronomy 28:1-14
